Cobdenites host Professor Bruce Caldwell

Steve Baker MP and I were delighted recently to have lunch with a truly outstanding intellectual visitor to London. Professor Bruce Caldwell is Research Professor of Economics at Duke University and Director of the Centre for the History of Political Economy.

An outstanding historian of economics, he is famed for being the current general editor of ‘The Collected Works of F. A. Hayek’ with the University of Chicago. He has also written a key book about the great man: ‘Hayek’s Challenge: An Intellectual Biography of Hayek’ published in 2004 by the University of Chicago Press.

After lunch the three of us posed for this photograph below St. Stephen’s Tower and Big Ben. Steve then took Bruce and his lovely wife on a private tour of the Palace of Westminster.

Clearly a fan of The Cobden Centre, it will not be too long before Bruce comes back to London as he and his wife often visit. Rest assured, next time we will set him to work. We will have him address one of our events and record it for posterity.
